How to size a men’s bracelet: measure once, add the right allowance
Your wrist measurement is the same for every bracelet. The number you add to it is not, and that is where most orders go wrong.

To size a men’s bracelet, measure your wrist just below the wrist bone, snug against the skin, then add an allowance that depends on the style: about 1.5–2.5 cm for a link or chain bracelet, more for a thick Cuban, 1–1.5 cm for a beaded bracelet, and around 1 cm of inner circumference for a cuff, which also needs a 2.5–3 cm opening. Most men’s link bracelets end up between 19 and 23 cm.
Measuring your wrist properly
- Use a soft tailor’s tape if you have one. If not, a strip of paper about 1 cm wide, a length of thread or a phone charging cable will do.
- Wrap it around the wrist just below the wrist bone — on the hand side of the bump — where a bracelet naturally settles.
- Pull it snug against the skin, not tight. You are measuring the wrist, not testing how far it compresses.
- Mark where it overlaps, lay it flat against a ruler and read the length in centimetres.
- Measure twice, once in the morning and once in the evening, and use the larger figure. Wrists swell slightly in heat.
- Measure the wrist you will actually wear it on. If the watch lives on the left, the bracelet usually goes on the right, and a dominant wrist can be a few millimetres larger.
How much to add, by style
| Bracelet type | Add to wrist | Why | How it should feel |
|---|---|---|---|
| Thin chain or link, under 6 mm | 1.5–2 cm | Thin links take little room inside | Slides about 2 cm, stops at the hand |
| Link or curb, 6–10 mm | 2–2.5 cm | Links take up inner space | Moves freely, does not spin |
| Cuban, 10 mm and up | 2.5–3 cm | Thick, stiff links eat inner space | Sits on the wrist bone, not over the hand |
| Flat mesh or box band | 1.5–2 cm | Lies flat, drapes less | Close without pinching |
| Beaded on elastic, 6–8 mm beads | 1–1.5 cm | Stretch does part of the work | Snug, no gap to catch |
| Beaded, 10 mm beads and up | 1.5–2 cm | Big beads shrink the inner loop | Snug, rolls without pressing |
| Leather wrap or cord with a clasp | 1.5–2 cm | Material stiffens and shrinks slightly | Close, with a little room |
| Open cuff | Inner circumference: wrist plus about 1 cm | Cuffs sit close and do not hang | Stays in place, gap faces the underside |
Cuffs have one more number: the opening. A 2.5–3 cm gap lets the cuff slide on over the narrow side of the wrist. Less than 2 cm means bending it open each time, which weakens the metal. Closed bangles and karas are different again, since they have to pass over the hand; that is covered in our bangle and cuff size guide.

If you prefer a looser, draped look, add another 0.5 cm to the link and Cuban columns. For a very close fit, subtract 0.5 cm. A unisex version of this chart, including tennis and charm bracelets, is in our bracelet size chart.
Reading the length on a listing
- Bracelet length is normally measured end to end, clasp closed and laid flat. That is the number to compare with the chart.
- Width is the measurement across a single link, in millimetres. It is not the thickness front to back.
- Some listings give the inner diameter of a cuff instead of the inner circumference. Multiply diameter by 3.14 to compare.
- Adjustable bracelets list a range. Aim for your size to fall in the middle, not at either end.
- If a listing shows only “one size” for a link bracelet, ask what length that is before ordering.
When it arrives and does not fit
A link bracelet that is too long by a link or two can usually have links removed with a small pin tool or at any watch repair counter in a few minutes. One that is too short cannot be lengthened neatly, which is why the rule is always to go up when between sizes. A cuff can be adjusted a few millimetres by pressing gently along its whole curve, never at the ends. Beaded elastic that is too small simply needs replacing with the next size.
Zayr offers exchanges within 7 days of delivery on unworn pieces in their original packaging, and because orders are cash on delivery you can check the bracelet on your wrist as soon as it arrives. How exchanges generally work in Pakistan, and what to keep, is explained in our guide to exchanges and returns.
Every bracelet that did not fit was ordered on a guess. The tape measure costs nothing, and it takes less time than reading the listing.
Common questions
How do I measure my wrist for a bracelet?
Wrap a soft tape, a strip of paper or a piece of thread around your wrist just below the wrist bone, snug but not tight. Mark the overlap, lay it against a ruler and read the length. Measure the wrist you will wear it on, preferably in the evening when it is at its largest.
How much bigger than my wrist should a men's bracelet be?
About 1.5–2 cm for a thin link bracelet, 2–2.5 cm for a 6–10 mm link, and 2.5–3 cm for a thick Cuban. Beaded elastic bracelets need only 1–1.5 cm. A cuff’s inner circumference should be about 1 cm more than the wrist, with an opening of 2.5–3 cm.
What is the average bracelet size for men?
Many men’s link bracelets are sold around 20–22 cm, which suits wrists of roughly 17.5–20 cm. That is only a common starting point, not your size. Measuring your own wrist and adding the allowance for the style takes a minute and avoids an exchange.
Can a men's bracelet be made smaller?
Most link bracelets can have one or more links removed with a pin tool, often at a watch repair counter in a few minutes. Cuffs can be adjusted slightly by hand. A bracelet that is too short cannot be lengthened neatly, so if you are between two sizes, choose the longer one.
