What Rs. 2,000 actually buys you in jewellery right now

Rs. 2,000 is the most common budget in our order data by a wide margin — it is the price point where a piece of jewellery stops being a decision and becomes something you can just buy. So it is worth being straight about what that money genuinely gets you, and where it does not stretch.

Where cheap is a false economy
- Gold-plated anything you intend to wear daily. Under Rs. 2,000 the plating is a flash coat, and it will be patchy within a season. Buy plated only for occasions.
- Rings with set stones under about Rs. 1,500. The setting is where the cost is, and at that price it is usually glue.
- Anything sold as silver below roughly Rs. 1,200. Silver has a metal price. Below it, you are buying silver-plated brass with a 925 stamp that means nothing.
- Beaded bracelets on elastic. Fine to buy, just know you are buying a season, not a piece.
- Earrings from an unknown seller. Cheap posts are the single most common cause of irritated lobes and they cannot be exchanged once opened.
How to spend Rs. 2,000 well, three ways
- One good thing. A single solid steel chain at 4–5 mm, 55 cm. This is the highest-return option and the one we would pick. It gets worn daily for years.
- Two useful things. A plain steel band and a simple bracelet, around Rs. 1,000 each. Good if you already own a chain, or if you want to find out whether you actually like wearing rings.

The under-2,000 checklist

- 316L stated explicitly, not just “stainless steel”.
- Weight in grams listed on any chain. This is the single most reliable value signal.
- Solid links, not hollow. If a 6 mm chain weighs 12 grams, it is hollow.
- A stated clasp type. Lobster clasps are standard; spring rings are cheaper and fail earlier.
- An exchange policy in writing, because at Rs. 2,000 nobody wants to argue about a Rs. 2,000 mistake.

Can I get real silver jewellery under Rs. 2,000?
Only a very light piece, and you should check for a 925 stamp. Silver has a metal price that sets a floor, so anything sold as sterling silver below roughly Rs. 1,200 is very likely silver-plated brass. Stainless steel is a more honest use of that budget.
How can I tell if a cheap chain is hollow?
Check the weight in grams against the width. A solid 6 mm steel chain at 55 cm weighs well over 20 grams; a hollow one of the same dimensions weighs about a third of that. If a listing gives a width but no weight, assume hollow until told otherwise.
