Jewellery with a saree: blouse necklines, drapes and occasions
A saree gives you a lot of neckline and a pallu that moves. The jewellery has to work with both.

Choose saree jewellery by the blouse neckline first, then the fabric. A deep round or V blouse suits a necklace or a set; a high-neck or boat-neck blouse suits statement earrings and no necklace. Heavy silk and embroidered sarees take more jewellery; chiffon, georgette and printed sarees take less. Keep anything that can snag away from the side where the pallu falls.
Sarees are worn in Pakistan mostly for weddings, formal dinners and, famously, college and university farewells. Each of those calls for a different amount of jewellery, and the blouse and drape decide what actually shows.

Working around the pallu
In the most common drape, the pallu falls over the left shoulder and runs across the body. That has practical consequences.
- The left side of the neckline is partly covered, so a necklace should be centred and short enough to sit clear of the pallu.
- Long necklaces get caught under the pallu and pull it out of place.
- Prong-set pendants and rough-edged pieces snag chiffon and net pallus. Bezel-set and smooth pieces are safer.
- A brooch or saree pin at the shoulder holds the pallu in place; keep it small and smooth on delicate fabrics.
- Earrings on the pallu side should not be so long that they catch in the fabric every time you turn your head.

For weddings
As a guest at a baraat or walima in a saree, a set of necklace and earrings with a heavy silk or embroidered saree looks right, as long as the blouse neckline leaves room for it. - Choose one statement: earrings or a necklace, not both. It photographs better and is easier to manage.

Bangles and wrists with a saree
Sarees are usually worn with short or elbow-length blouse sleeves, so wrists are on show. A pair of kangan, a stack of glass churiyan in the saree’s border colour, or a single cuff all work. Getting ready on the day
Put the saree on first, pin the pallu, then add jewellery in this order: earrings, necklace, bangles, rings. Earrings go first because adjusting a pallu with long earrings already on is how they catch.
