Bangles for Eid: how many, which colours, and glass or metal
Eid bangles are the one piece of jewellery nobody asks you to justify. The only real questions are how many, what colour, and whether they arrive in time.

For Eid, wear bangles in a colour lifted from your outfit, in a stack of roughly six to twelve per wrist, with a metal kangan or kara at each end to hold glass churiyan in place. Glass gives you colour and the sound; metal gives you something that survives the day and can be worn again. Buy metal pieces at least a week before chand raat, and leave glass for the last few days.
That is the short version. The longer version is mostly about fit, and about not ending Eid afternoon with a lap full of broken glass.
How many bangles to wear
There is no rule, but there are sensible ranges, and they depend on the bangle’s width more than anything else. Thin glass churiyan are worn in numbers. Wide metal kangan are worn in ones and twos. Mixing the two is where most Eid stacks end up.

Glass churiyan are usually sold by the dozen, which is why twelve per wrist became the default. If you are working, cooking for guests or driving between relatives, a full forearm of glass is less romantic by 4pm than it was at 9am. One wrist stacked and one wrist bare is a perfectly normal compromise.

The answer most people land on is both. A plated or steel bangle at each end of a glass stack acts as a guard: it takes the knocks first and stops the glass sliding over the wrist bone and clashing. It also means that when the glass is gone, you still have two bangles worth wearing next Eid.
Matching colours to your Eid outfit
The safest method is to pick the second colour in your outfit, not the main one. A green kameez with pink embroidery looks deliberate with pink churiyan and a gold kangan; the same kameez with green bangles looks like the bangles came with the suit.
- Pastel or white Eid suits: gold-tone metal with one row of glass in the embroidery colour. Pastels are easily swamped by a full stack of bright glass.
- Bright solid colours (red, mustard, emerald): the matching colour in glass, broken up with two or three gold bangles through the stack.
- Heavily printed or multicolour outfits: plain gold or silver metal only. Glass in a printed outfit’s colours usually looks busy.
- Black: silver tone, or gold with a single contrasting glass colour. Black is the one outfit where metal alone looks finished.

Getting the size right before it matters
Bangles are sized by the hand, not the wrist, because they have to pass over the knuckles. Most adult women in Pakistan wear 2.4, 2.6 or 2.8, and 2.6 is the most common. If you are buying online, measure rather than guess: the bangle size guide takes two minutes and a strip of paper.
- Fold your thumb in towards your little finger, the way you would to slide a bangle on.
- Wrap paper around the widest part of the hand in that position and mark it.
- Measure the length in millimetres and divide by 3.14 for the inside diameter you need.
- Add 2–3 mm. Hands swell in Eid heat, and nobody wants to soap their hand on Eid morning.
- Glass has zero give. If you are between sizes, go up for glass. For metal, a hinged kangan or an open cuff removes the problem entirely.
When to buy: chand raat is not a plan
Chand raat bangle stalls are part of Eid and nobody should skip them for the fun of it. But as a buying strategy, the last night is crowded, the good sizes go first, and the colour you wanted is under someone else’s elbow. The more practical split is to sort metal pieces early and treat chand raat glass as the extra.
- Two to three weeks before Eid: order metal bangles and kangan online. This leaves time for an exchange if the size is wrong.
- One week before: last sensible point for online orders to most cities. Couriers get very busy in the final days before Eid and delivery slows for everyone.
- Chand raat: glass churiyan in your outfit colour, and mehndi. Take your metal bangles with you to check the glass fits the same size.

Looking after them after Eid
Glass can go back in its box and will be fine or broken, nothing in between. Metal needs slightly more thought. Store them on a bangle rod or flat in a box rather than loose in a drawer where they rub.
